Historical monuments; malicious destruction or injury

Whoever wilfully or removes, displaces, destroys, defaces, mars or injures any monument, tablet or other device erected to mark an historic place or to commemorate an historic event shall be punished by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars or by imprisonment for not more than two years. Any person convicted under the provisions of this section shall, in addition to any fine assessed, reimburse the commonwealth for the total amount of damage incurred.
Simplified explanation
Wilfully or maliciously damaging or removing a monument or marker for a historic place or event is punishable by up to 2 years in prison or a $1,000 fine, plus reimbursing the state for the damage.
